Last Thursday we travelled to the outskirts of Spandau to face BSG FG Südwest/Deutsche Bank in our opening game of the season. Always promising to be a close encounter, the excitement on the sideline was palpable and it took only five minutes for both teams to score one goal each. It was the home team, however, that managed to get the advantage before the half time break.

In the second half, after many promising chances and good saves on both sides, it was again our opponent adding to their tally, to make the scoreline 3-1. That two goal advantage only lasted for ten minutes, though, and our lads were now pushing for the equaliser, coming very close, but just not close enough...

Now pressing very high up the pitch and determined to get the equalising goal, we had to risk leaving our defense in a more vulnerable position. This didn't go unnoticed by our opponent and they were able to take advantage of a quick counter attack, restoring their two goal lead.

Ten minutes before the end, we were able to get one goal back, reigniting the the hope of at least scoring the equaliser, or even the winner! Alas, it was not to be...
