An exciting end-to-end game ended level after Friedrichshain II scored an unfortunate own goal with ten minutes to go
It was another baking hot 12 o'clock kick-off at Poststadion, as the second-string of SC Friedrichshain turned up looking to continue their 100% record for the season. The beginning of the game saw the away side dominate the ball, but struggle to make too many clear-cut chances. Meanwhile, ASV were struggling to get their passing game going, resorting instead to long balls and set-pieces, though these were clearly causing some issues.
The first goal came after a crunching tackle by Lagoutte saw a free-kick conceded on the left. The ball was whipped fiendishly toward the back-post where Muitron arrived expertly to glance into the bottom corner.
The reply was swift. Another direct counter-attack saw Acosta fouled in a central position around 30-yards from goal. The usual free-kick taker Phillips stepped aside for Buchmiller, who drilled a rocket into the bottom left corner, helped by a slight deflection. It was an excellent goal for last season's top goalscorer, and marked his first of the new season.
Friedrichshain stormed out for the second half and put immense pressure on. Time and again they found space down the left thanks to the pace and trickery of the substitute David Giugno. After a number of incredible saves by the ASV II 2nd-choice goalkeeper Leanos, the wall was finally breached when a cross was deflected wickedly into the bottom right of the net.
ASV II were far from down and out, though. Just before the goal, record goalscorer Tom Flint made his long-awaited return to the field and his presence seemed to galvanise the home side. They began to be the more ambitious of the two teams, with Friedrichshain now starting to tire in the heat. The chances came thick and fast in the final 20 minutes - Acosta could have finished from a lay-off before Thompson missed a glorious opportunity to get the team level.
In the end, it would be a Friedrichshain player who helped level the score. A foul close to the centre-circle gave ASV the chance to whip the ball forward from deep. Phillips obliged, whipping a dangerous ball in over the first line of defence. Fearing the arrival of a striker behind him, Ferretti was just able to get his head to the ball, but only enough to guide it into his own net.
It was ASV who had the best of the final ten minutes but in the end the game fizzled out into a draw which both teams will likely accept in the circumstances. ASV II remain unbeaten so far this season, and will host Concordia Wilhelmsruh II in their next match. The last time the two teams met at the Poststadion, it finished 6-2 to the away side.
